Prior to 15 February 2024, all capitec main accounts would earn up to 6.65% interest based on the amount of capital in the account.
As per this the notification below, all Capitec main accounts will now earn a flat 2.5% (Instead of the previous tiered rates of up to 6.65%)
The current main account rates as of January 2025:
No Benefit
The interest rate on the "Access Anytime" savings account are the same as the main account rates as it stands on January 2025.
So there is no benefit to the customer – Only a new inconvenience of having to move money in and out of the "Access Anytime" savings account to achieve the higher interest rates.
After asking Capitec via X the response highlights that the interest rate may go higher once implemented on the "Access Anytime" account:
Lower Interest Rate
After a call received from Capitec it was made clear that the interest rate is lowered. It has moved from 6.9% to 6.65%.
