Using a South African bank debit card – one can withdraw money from a Thailand ATM.

This example using Thailand’s SCB bank.

The amount requested was: 5000 Baht
The access fee (for any amount) is: 250 Baht

The quoted exchange rate includes a spread / markup of 5.50%.

At the given rate of 1.8345 Baht for 1 Rand:

5250 / 1.8345 ~= 2861.82 Rands

So 5000 baht cost 2861.82 at a rate of 1.7471.

Advice

Better to withdraw bigger amounts once than incur the access fee multiple times.
