Avoid Steves auto clinic kyalami

Please be very careful using Steves Auto Clinic to service your car.

They will typically charge more than the dealership service department and provide a poor service.

Specific issues occurring when a VW Gold car was taken for service:

  • After replacing shocks – ABS was engaging. Had to take the car back to the shop. It was seen that a bearing had to be bought as the lining was triggering ABS.
  • After a cambelt service and engine mount replacement – 18 months after the engine mount assembly failed and the engine dropped luckily while not driving fast. It was seen the bolts were not replaced (as they looked very old or tightened too much) which is against the spec of servicing engine mounts. One must always replace with new bolts. The bolts failed and were stuck in the engine block needing a rethreading.
  • The CV joint boot was replaced – however instead of using a new metal clamp that should have come with the boot – a cable tie was used by Steves Auto Clinic. A new CV joint had to be bought at great expense as the boot had leaked due to the cable tie solution.

Overall would like to give everyone out there a recommendation to avoid Steves Auto Clinic Kyalami.
