Unblock Unsafe Attachment in Office Outlook

How to Unblock Unsafe Attachments Office Outlook

Common file types

If you still use the old email from Office Outlook when sending scripts you will often get a error message from office outlook. The error says: “Outlook at blocked potentially unsafe attachment”. Now this is a great feature and has most probably reduced the amount of worms and spam ten fold. But sometimes we want to send scripts via email so I would suggest allowing:

  • ‘.js’
  • ‘.vbs’
  • ‘.pl’
  • ‘.rb’
  • ‘.py’

Now the above are javascript, Visual Basic Script, Perl, Ruby and Python respectively.

Usually spammers, worms and malicious software send via ‘.exe’. So please for your own safety do not unblock ‘.exe’ – Only do this if you know what you are doing, even if you know what you’re doing don’t do it.

Unsafe Attachment

Steps to Unblock Unsafe Attachments Outlook

1. Start Registry Edit (Run->’regedit’)

2. Navigate to:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\XX.X\Outlook\Security

(Where XX.X is your version of Office Outlook)

3. Right click in space ->’Create new string value’

4. Name it: Level1Remove

5. Edit the key by entering a list of file extensions

eg. .js;.vbs;.pl;.rb;.py

6. Restart office outlook

Is there an easier way to do it?

Yes, there is. If you prefer to navigate your way through office outlook, you will find the property to change somewhere.

Good luck with that.

Bollinger Oscillator (BOS)

Bollinger Oscillator Overview

The bollinger oscillator is an economic indicators which measures the standard deviation of the price from a simple moving average. It can be calculated using a 20-day simple moving average but is usually calculated using a 9-day moving average.

The bollinger oscillator is pictured below:

Bollinger-Oscillator-Share-Price

Just below the volume and above the MACD is the Bollinger Oscillator (BOS) indicator.

A signal to buy a share would be when the Bollinger Oscillator (BOS) is below -2.  A signal to sell a share would be when the Bollinger Oscillator (BOS) isabove 2. Meaning that the ruling share price is 2 standard deviations below and above  the moving average respectively. You can use the bands in the same way buying when the price moves below the lower band and selling when the share moves above the upper band.

BOS Calculation

To Calculate the Bollinger Oscillator (BOS):

  1. Find the 9-day moving average average (n1 + n2 … + n9)/9
  2. Find the standard deviation of the 9-days
  3. Subtract 9-day Moving average from the current ruling price
  4. Take the answer devide by the standard deviation
  5. Answer is the BOS (Bollinger Oscillator)

Bands Calculation

To Calculate the Bollinger Bands:

  1. Find the 20-day moving average average (n1 + n2 … + n20)/20
  2. Find the standard deviation of the 20-days
  3. Upper Band = 20-day Moving Average + (2 x standard deviation of the 20-days)
  4. Lower Band = 20-day Moving Average – (2 x standard deviation of the 20-days)

Hope this helps you in your adventures on the markets!

NB: Remember the BOS uses a 9-day moving average but Bollinger specifies a 20-day moving average as recommened. You can chop and change for an indicator to fit your requirement. If you want to learn more about the man, John Bollinger, or Bollinger Bands as indicators, click the respective links.
